Spy Shots: Suzuki SX4 getting facelift too

Following in the footsteps of its European twin, the Fiat Sedici, Suzuki is slightly reworking its SX4 Crossover for next year. You'd be forgiven if you didn't notice - all of the revisions are quite subtle - but the whole front fascia has been slightly remodeled. The most obvious change is to the grille area, which now has a slightly smaller opening that's flanked by new concave recesses for the fog lights. Apparently, the faux rear skid-plate has been redone as well. Like we said: minor, discreet changes.

Inside, the Sedici has been upgraded with dual zone climate controls, so it would make sense that the SX4 would benefit from this new feature as well. We don't expect any powertrain changes, which is just fine with us. We thought that the SX4 was plenty peppy with its standard 2.0-liter DOHC engine's 143 horsepower and 136 lb-ft of torque when we had the sedan model in our garage earlier this year.

Auto Makers Tough Choices: Should We Stray or Should We Grow

Recession? …Here.  Weak Dollar? …Present.  Isuzu?  …Isuzu?  …Isuzu?

Just like the housing market in the US the Auto Industry is not only dealing with their reorganizations from their gluttonous years but also with the economic situation that has gripped this country. As could be expected each auto maker has its own approach to handling such shifts, and it is there strategic efforts that will determine their future. Focusing for a moment on how the foreign auto makers are handling the American economic situation some are adding new plants and assembly factories, some are re-imagining themselves and others may be doing Pres. Bush’s least favorite thing… the cut and run.

To combat a slumping US dollar and to protect themselves from a loss of profit Volkswagen is looking to expand more into North America. While American companies still out-source their jobs over seas to nations with cheaper labor, the Germans are starting to look at America the same way… sorta speak. They can save money and salvage greater profits by moving some more manufacturing and assembly plants into the US. (more…)

2010 Suzuki Kizashi Spotted Unclad And Ready For 'Ring Time [2010 Suzuki Kizashi]

We've heard about the new Suzuki Kizashi's engines courtesy of an overzealous Aussie importer, and we've seen Kizashi line drawings suitable for a kids' coloring book. Now we get a sneak peek of the new Suzuki courtesy of the spy photogs at KGP. Our reaction is mixed; on one hand, it's a nice-enough looking sedan with some Teutonic styling cues — much better than what we're used to from Suzuki. On the other hand, the conventional profile has lost some of the excitement of the Kizashi concept we saw in New York. Decide for yourself. Spy report below the jump.

Suzuki's new Kizashi sedan arrived arrived in Germany completely unclad, for a few quick laps around the 'Ring. We caught the prototype stationary, as the test group arranged entry onto the race circuit. This is the first time that we've seen the Kizashi completely free of its heavy camouflage, relying solely on some black and white graphics to try to trick the eye.

It's immediately clear that Suzuki stylists have managed a faithful transition from the Kizashi3 concept sedan to this production model, although some of the show car's sexy profile has been lost in translation—especially around the C-pillar and rear deck. However, we can't help but notice that the Kizashi's rump has some serious BMW 1-series coupe overtones. While it's not saying much, this is clearly the most promising sedan in Suzuki's history, what with its expected 3.6-liter DOHC V6 perhaps producing as much as 300-horsepower. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder is also expected to anchor entry-level models.
