Third-gen Audi A8 to be "stronger, sharper, more precise"

From the first lozenge-shaped A8 that hit American shores in 1997, Audi's flagship sedan has slowly been asserting itself more and more. The current A8 W12 is almost always given credit for its beautiful-yet-subtle design and a glorious interior. American buyers, however, haven't thrown money at it like they do the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S Class. Audi is out to change that with the 2011 A8.

Among the changes, Audi is trumpeting improvements to the car's handling, the area in which it has traditionally lost ground to its European luxo-sedan brethren. The rear-biased quattro system will also be enhanced with Audi's "sport differential" torque-vectoring system, and if other markets clamors for it, Audi will offer the front-drive A8 outside of Europe. Inside, expect a raft of changes to the interior and a "more innovative" MMI system.

As before, the A8 will come in regular and long wheelbase versions, and provide a wide range of engines for world markets, from a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel through to the S8's V10. The transmission will be the same 8-speed ZF unit used by the 2009 BMW 7 Series.

All of it will be wrapped in sheetmetal that Audi says will be "stronger, shaper, more precise," a design that will make efforts to highlight the car's aluminum build technology. Said head designer Stefan Sielaff, the car will present "a strong three-dimensional theme," and be "the first of a new styling language at Audi." We can't wait to see it. Thanks for the tip, Other Man!

Spy Shots: E-Class wagon

When we saw spy shots of the E63 AMG wagon a couple of months ago, we thought the extended lines might diminish the stubbiness of the E Class sedan. The camouflage, cladding, and low profile tires made it seem deceptively sleek. Now that we've seen pictures of the regular E Class wagon, we're not so sure. There are two swage lines along the sides, but without any other curvature or those nifty ConceptFascination-esque haunches, they can't break up the impression of acres of metal. It just looks huge. Even so, we're still upset we don't get it here, and with a trailer hitch, even...

We’eve taken a look at the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG before, but with this new Gullwing edition it is definitely worth a new look. It will come in nine completely exclusive colors and the gullwing doors that open up to 70 degrees are a real treat as well.

Spy Shots: Mercedes Gullwing Mule freezing its arse off

It's been over a year since we first caught a glimpse of the new gullwing super coupe from Mercedes-Benz, and in the months that followed, we've seen it cloaked in Viper sheetmetal, its doors open to the world and a few shots of the interior. While it's still unclear whether the SLC will wear a Mercedes badge or an AMG logo (or both), development continues unabated as engineers flog the SLC through -15-degree weather in an undisclosed arctic locale.

We do know that motivation will be provided by a twin-turbocharged V8, likely the same 6.2-liter engine being fitted to all of M-B's AMG-badged products, and that 600 hp will be fed to the rear wheels thorough a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The chassis will be made of aluminum, and carbon fiber will make up the majority of the exterior panels. Sales of the SLC are expected to begin in 2010, assuming the world doesn't implode on itself in the meantime.

2009 Mercedes-Benz G550

2009 Mercedes Benz G550
While the G550 is much different than the rest of their popular cars, it is still a nice car in it’s own right and definitely has it’s place in the market. It has an obviously box-like design, that most people will either love or hate. That car is available everywhere now, but what do you guys think of it?
